INTRODUCTION
1.1
Aim of the Workshop:
The
aim of the Workshop is to train local and regional microbiologists
on modern techniques of molecular biology namely Denaturing Gradient
Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) which is a technique originally developed
for detecting single base changes and DNA polymorphisms, entered
the field of microbial ecology. Nowadays, a lot of interest is going
to characterizing total bacterial populations of different niches
and monitoring its dynamical changes. Molecular techniques such
as DGGE most certainly contribute to the description and exploration
of various microbial ecosystems. In this five day workshop theoretical
as well as practical aspects of DGGE will be explained and discussed.
Given
the practical feature of the workshop, the number of participants
will be limited to 23.
